Effective Weight Loss Techniques

There are many fad diets but few offer effective weight loss techniques that work. There are many healthy weight loss methods to help you lose those unwanted pounds. Following are a few safe and easy weight loss tips.
There is your basic low calorie, high fiber diet which consists of a lot of different fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean meats. By simply cutting out excess sugar, fat and red meat and consuming more of the foods first mentioned, you will gradually lose weight and feel a whole lot better.
A diet which has been surrounded by past controversy is the Atkins diet. This is essentially a low carb diet that is meant to keep your blood sugar low and prevent the natural secretion of insulin to prevent the storage of fat cells in your body. Basically you eliminate carbs like potatoes, pasta, bread and sugar and concentrate on high protein food. Most dieticians agree this diet has it's benefits if followed on a short term basis.
A vegetarian diet may be one of the healthiest ways to lose weight. Whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables will be the main ingredients of your diet with nuts, beans and soy products like tofu as the most common substitutes for protein.
Whichever method you use in your efforts to lose weight, keep in mind that healthy weight loss is only complete with some form of exercise. Whether it's an hour in the gym every day or a 30 minute walk in the evening, a healthy approach to losing weight and a consistent exercise regiment will do wonders for your body.

Control Your Appetite

Why is it hard for so many of us to control our appetite? I for one love the sight, smell and taste of most foods. It's a constant struggle for so many people to limit their food intake to only what's necessary for survival. Following are some tips I have found to help curb my appetite and not make a glutton of myself.
- Sit down and prepare a schedule of specific times you're going to eat each meal. The ideal schedule should consist of breakfast, lunch and dinner with a mid-morning and a mid-afternoon snack. It's important to establish a structured routine in order to discipline yourself.
- Make a list of what types of food you will eat for each meal. My suggestion is to make a column for each meal and list different things to eat under each category. The type of food you list is really up to you. Obviously if your health conscious you'll want to choose foods that are healthy and low in fat.
- The whole point of spacing out your meals is to avoid becoming too hungry and overindulging yourself. Most people over-eat when they're near starvation and end up eating more than they should in one sitting. Pace yourself and try to practice portion control with each meal. After a while you will have developed good eating
to last you a lifetime.
- Prepare a weekly menu to help you stay on course
- Include fruits and vegetables in your menu for a healthy balance
- Eat slowly and stop when your satisfied.
- Don't eat until your full and miserable

Healthy Eating as a Vegetarian

Don’t think you’re making healthy food choices simply by giving up meat. Believe it or not, it is possible to be an unhealthy vegetarian. Diets based on cheese pizza, pasta with creamy sauces, packaged snack foods, french fries and sugary drinks don’t do you or your heart any favors. Whether you eat meat or not, pay attention to fat intake and eat plenty of whole grain foods and a variety of vegetables and fruits every day for good health.
If you want to be on a healthy vegetarian diet, you must pay close attention to your protein intake. Most people are able to get their daily intake from meat, eggs and dairy products. Cutting this out means you have to obtain your protein from other sources. Nuts, beans and soy products like tofu are the most common substitutes for a vegetarian diet. You can also include cheese in your diet but risk a high fat intake along with it.
Whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables will be the main ingredients of your diet. Unless you chose a Vegan diet, you are allowed eggs and dairy products as a source of protein. However if you are including dairy products in your diet, you'll want to stick to low-fat or non-fat varieties.
There are restrictions you must accept if you decide on a vegetarian diet. You must watch your fat intake and cooking for yourself is the better option for all meals. Keep in mind that a vegetarian diet does not always mean a healthy diet. Eating less meat or no meat does mean you are necessarily eating less fat. The key is to monitor everything you put on your plate.
Just remember that a vegetarian diet is only a healthy diet if you're responsible about it. Take the steps to do plenty of research before making this life change. It's a lifestyle and shouldn't be taken lightly. Ultimately, you'll benefit in the long run as you strive for better health.

Practice Weight Management

Those of us who struggle with weight management know what it’s like to stress about calories and fat consumption. We cringe at the words diet, low fat, low calorie and that dreaded word…EXERCISE! However, there’s no need to lose hope because there are easy and practical steps you can take for healthy weight loss without the stress. Following are a few simple tips on weight management.
Portion control
Food choices are another challenge for those who struggle with managing their weight. I personally, would love to live on Pizza, popcorn, ice cream and soda but I know that’s not realistic. I’m not saying you can’t enjoy those things every once in a while but you should really concentrate on including an even balance of lean meats, vegetables, fruits and healthy carbs. Now I’m all for treating yourself to something you really enjoy every once in a while but just do it in moderation.
Meal frequency is a struggle for most people and especially those who have erratic schedules. However, you should really try to develop a system of eating at certain times of the day. This is especially important for your three main meals of breakfast, lunch and dinner. A light snack in between your meals will also help you to not over eat during one of your main meals. I would suggest eating 5-6 times per day with your snacks consisting of things such as cheese sticks, granola bars or a pudding cup. Just remember to keep it light in between to avoid becoming heavy in the middle.
It all comes down to common sense but more importantly…it all hinges on your ability to discipline yourself to change your eating habits for the better. Weight management is not hard if you put your mind to it. Start today on the road to becoming a healthier, happier you.
